Team Foundation Server: Project Creation Failed

At this point in my life, I've created about 30 or 40 Team Projects. Right now I'm playing around with creating them with Custom Process Templates, which is a bit of a challenge. So far so good though. Except for one thing. Project Creation frequently, and sporadically, bombs. You get a great view into why it bombed, which frequently ends up with something like: "Access to the path 'MsProjProp.xml' is denied" or "Access to the path 'CssTasks.xml' is denied."

The funny thing is, it's barfing when it tries to clean up temp files.

The GORY details are found in a few forum posts:

Rob Caron also covers some of the underlying REASONS why you may run in to this problem:

The only problem with that info, is that it doesn't cover all scenarios. For me the problem happens intermittantly which is quite annoying.

The good news? If your team project fails because of a permissions error during cleanup you're NOT screwed. Just close the ProjectCreation_etc summary.log after you determine that it was a cleanup issue that cause the project to die. Then go to your Team Explorer, and add and existing project, and specify the project you just created it.

Anyhow... happy Templating...
