Browser Wars - Take 2

Veterans of the 4.x browser wars hear the term 'browser wars' and their immediate reaction is to cringe... thinking of all the futzing around they did trying to get their markup to correctly display in Netscape 4x and IE 4x browsers. It was a brutal war, with no real victor -- at least from the perspective of the trenches. Down in the trenches the only thing that was OBVIOUS were the casualties: lost time, pulled hair, cursing, endless debates about which browser suX0r3d more, etc.

With rumors/supposition that Google may eventually launch their own browser, and with FF putting the heat on IE to force a reversal of plans in releasing IE 7... I'm Hoping LIKE CRAZY that the browser wars start up again -- FULL SCALE.

Why? Well, because this time it will be a war of ideals and generals... grunts won't be getting bloody. Each browser will be vying for BEST standards compatability. That will be a HUGE win for the web, and for web developers. Once browser makers have hit that critical target there will only be a handful of other targets left in this technical target-shoot: security, load time, and functionality being the key targets.

Bring it ON!
